Binance account frozen or withdrawal on hold? What it means and what to do

A frozen account or a blocked withdrawal is stressful, but it usually has a reason you can work with. The common causes, what the exchange needs from you, and how to answer so the case moves.

Key takeaways
  • Most freezes are reviews, not confiscations: the exchange needs information from you.
  • Read the exact message in your account and note the ticket number.
  • Answer completely the first time, with documents, in one place.
  • Don’t deposit more from the same source while the review is open.
  • Binance support never contacts you first on Telegram or WhatsApp.

01Why accounts get frozen

Exchanges have to follow anti-money-laundering rules. When something in your account needs checking, they restrict it until you answer. The common causes:

  • Missing or unclear KYC: your identity documents need updating or don’t match.
  • A flagged deposit: crypto you received came from a wallet linked to a hack, scam or sanctioned party, sometimes without you knowing.
  • A request for information (RFI): they want to know the source of your funds or the purpose of transactions.
  • Unusual activity: a new device, a new country, a sudden large amount.
  • A law enforcement request linked to funds that passed through your account.

02What to do, step by step

  1. Read the exact message in your account notifications or email. Note the ticket or case number and which category they name (KYC, AML, security).
  2. Don’t panic-deposit or move funds around. More deposits from the same source can make the review longer.
  3. Gather your documents: ID, proof of address, and proof of where the funds came from: the P2P order, the invoice, the salary slip, the withdrawal record from another exchange.
  4. Answer once, completely, and clearly. Explain the story of the funds in a few short sentences, with the documents attached.
  5. Follow up on the same ticket, calmly, with the same case number. Opening many new tickets slows things down.

03How long does it take?

It depends on the exchange and the case. Simple KYC updates can clear in days. AML reviews and flagged deposits can take weeks. A complete, clear answer the first time is what shortens it most.

04Watch out for fake support

When your account is frozen, scammers pretend to be “Binance support” or “compliance agents” and offer to unlock it for a fee. Official support works only inside the app or website. They never contact you first on Telegram or WhatsApp, and they never ask for your password or seed phrase.

05Questions people ask

Why is my Binance withdrawal on hold?

Usually because of a security check, a KYC update or an AML review of a deposit. The message in your account says which one.

Will I lose my funds if my account is frozen?

In most cases, no. The funds stay in the account while the review runs. They can stay frozen if the review isn’t answered properly or the funds are tied to a crime.

I received USDT through P2P and my account got frozen. Why?

The coins may have come from a flagged wallet. Keep the P2P order, the chat and your payment proof, and submit them to show you bought them in good faith.

Can someone unlock my account for a fee?

No one outside the exchange can unlock it. Anyone who promises that is a scammer. What helps is a complete, well-prepared answer through the official channel.

06Need help preparing your case?

I review the account history and the exchange’s messages, and help you prepare a clear, complete case with the right documents, so you escalate through the official channels. I’m not Binance staff or support. See how exchange cases work.
