Crypto scam awareness training for employees and customers: a 90-minute workshop outline

Fake investment platforms, wallet drainers, fake support and “recovery” scams target staff and customers alike. A ready-to-use outline for a crypto scam awareness session, and the controls that should sit behind it.

Key takeaways
  • Crypto scams target ordinary employees, not just crypto users.
  • Show real examples: fake platforms, fake support, wallet-drainer links.
  • Teach three habits: verify, slow down, report.
  • Training works best with controls behind it: 2FA, payment approvals, reporting channels.
  • Banks and fintechs can use the same session for customers.

01Why this belongs in your security training

Most security awareness programmes cover email phishing and passwords, but not crypto. Yet crypto scams are among the most common frauds in the region: fake investment platforms promoted on social media, “trading experts” on WhatsApp, fake exchange support and wallet-drainer links. Your employees and customers meet them every week.

03The three habits to teach

  1. Verify: official apps and websites only. Never trust a link, a DM or a phone number from a message.
  2. Slow down: urgency is the scammer’s main tool. “Act now” is a reason to stop.
  3. Report: one clear internal channel, and no blame for reporting early.

04The controls behind the training

Training alone isn’t enough. One busy moment can beat a year of awareness. Pair the session with:

  • Authenticator-based 2FA on email and financial accounts.
  • Two-person approval for payments and changes to payment details.
  • Email and web filtering for known scam domains.
  • A simple reporting button or contact, and quick feedback to the reporter.

05Questions security and HR teams ask

Why do employees need crypto scam training if we don’t use crypto?

Because scammers target people, not companies’ tech stack. Employees lose personal savings to fake platforms, and the same tricks are used for business payment fraud.

Can banks use this training for customers?

Yes. A shorter version works as a customer awareness session or webinar, especially in Arabic.

How often should crypto scam training run?

Once a year as a full session, with short updates when new scam types appear.

06Who runs this blog

I’m Sam. I trace stolen funds and help scam victims, so this training uses real patterns I see every week, in Arabic or English. Plan a session, or read how fake recovery services work.
